What have you been putting off because you are hung up on ‘perfect’?
[I] woke up with a bit of a case of the Thursdays today, slightly panicking because the summer holidays are nearly here and I’ve still got so much to do, but also feeling tired because there is a lot of running around to do for kids towards the end of term and I’m longing for a break from the school grind.
Recently, someone said to me “Done is better than perfect“. I don’t mean in terms of the work you deliver to clients, but with our own businesses we often agonise about things like our websites needing to look just right, or creating a spectacular promotional flyer. And so we get paralysed, thinking we can’t market our businesses until everything is perfect.
That same person challenged me to send out a plain text email to all of you, with just a simple image and some genuine words. Can you imagine? It just about broke my little perfectionist designer heart. But the truth is, I hadn’t sent out an email newsletter in months. Previously I’ve spent hours designing swishy email templates to the point where I kept putting it off because it was taking so long.
My ‘get-it-done’ plain text email took me 10 minutes (TEN MINUTES!!!) and I got an amazing response – many of you replied to my email just to thank me for taking the time to say hello and for the helpful information. It kind of blew my mind, to be honest. I certainly didn’t get any personal replies to those swishy emails I used to send.
That email I sent was an introduction to my Blog Like a Boss Guide. Nearly 5,000 of you have downloaded the guide so far. I have seen fresh blog content popping up everywhere. You’re all killing it.
If you haven’t dived into the guide yet, we also have 6 supporting videos for each step.
Join the Design Lounge Facebook group for some serious goal setting.
If you’re thinking that your business would take off, if you could just design that perfect ‘thing’, then I want to help you. I have a very active Facebook group. I’d love you to join. You can meet each other and get advice from the experts I work with on my own projects.
We are getting serious about business and the tools you need to attract your ideal clients as well as grow your business. So come on over.
Have a great week everyone.
